Bath face double injury blow

Joe Maddock and Lee Best are struggling to be fit for the game against Northampton.

Bath are likely to be without Joe Maddock and Lee Best for their first home match of the Guinness Premiership season against Northampton.

Both players limped out of the Bristol encounter with hamstring injuries, and now Bath director John Connolly faces an anxious wait to find out if either player makes Saturday's fixture.

Wing Maddock is a particularly crucial injury for the Bath, who are already missing newboys Michael Stephenson and David Bory from the wide positions.

Head of Sports Medicine Geoff Clark revealed: "Both Joe and Lee damaged their hamstrings playing in the Bristol match. They will be having scans to assess the full extent of the damage and we hope to have a clearer picture tomorrow morning."

Bath and Northampton both go into the weekend fixture off the back of poor defeats, and they will be desperate to chalk up a victory at the Rec on Saturday.
