James has been punished for a flying head-high tackle on Jurgen Visser in the final 10 minutes of the game in Pretoria and rules the former Springboks No 10 out of the Sharks' last game of the season - with the Durban-based team already out of play-off contention.
Meanwhile, Bulls lock Wilhelm Steenkamp will appear at a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday for an alleged head butt on James in the same game.
Replacement forward Steenkamp was cited for head-butting James in the ruck and is in danger of missing the finals for the Bulls, who currently top the standings and can make certain of finishing the regular season in first place with victory over the Stormers at the weekend.
The Bulls lead the defending champion Chiefs of New Zealand by two points and ACT Brumbies of Australia by four points ahead of the final round of games on Friday and Saturday.
