Saracens prop Rhys Gill suspended for three weeks after guilty plea

Saracens prop Rhys Gill has been suspended for three weeks by the RFU after he pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous tackling.

The 29-year-old was sent off in the second half of the Aviva Premiership defeat at Harlequins on Saturday for tip-tackling George Lowe.

At a Rugby Football Union disciplinary hearing on Tuesday, Gill pleaded guilty to the charge of dangerous tackling contrary to Law 10.4(J) and was ordered to pay £500 towards the hearing costs on top of his ban.

He will miss the game against Bath Rugby on January 30 but is free to play again from February 2, ahead of their trip to Exeter Chiefs on Sunday, February 7.

Harlequins pair James Horwill and Dave Ward were also charged for acts contrary to good sportsmanship and punching or striking effectively, after the hosts handed Sarries their first league defeat of the season at the Stoop.

Both pleaded not guilty and their citings were dismissed by the discplinary panel. They are free to resume action immediately.
