Sale Sharks have turned to England forward Dean Schofield to lead the side.
Sale Sharks have turned to Dean Schofield to lead the side following the retirement of Jason Robinson.
The 28-year-old has made over 100 appearances for Sharks since making his debut in 2001 - and was rewarded with his first England cap during the tour to South Africa.
And director of rugby Philippe Saint Andre has no doubt Schofield is the right man to help revive Sale's fortunes after a poor 2006-07 campaign.
He told the clubs' official website: "Dean is well respected by everyone at the club and I am sure he will be a good leader for my team.
"He is a tough player who never fails to give 100 per cent and is just what we need for the start of the new season."
Schofield is delighted to have been given the opportunity to captain the side and is already planning for next season.
He said: "We need to get back to basics after our low league placing last season.
"We all need to have a workmanlike attitude on the field and work together to improve."
