Lyon confirm signing of Welsh centre

Big-spending Lyon have announced their intentions to push for promotion to the Top 14 with the signings of Luke Abraham and Lee Thomas. Flanker Abraham was a free agent after his release by Sale at the end of the season, however the revelation his Edgeley Park team-mate Thomas has joined them will have come as a surprise. The 26-year-old Welsh centre only signed a new two-year deal with the Sharks in December 2009 - however new coach Mike Brewer has been looking at making changes to the squad that only just avoided relegation last season. And Thomas has now been confirmed by Lyon as one of seven new signings as they look to bounce back to their play-off defeat to La Rochelle. Lyon have also revealed Irish lock Christian Short has signed from Brive, with props Philemon Toleafoa and Florin Bogdanel Balan joining from Montpellier and Montauban respectively. Stade Francais lock Pierre Vigouroux and Fiji centre Waisele Sukanaveita have also agreed to move to the ProD2 outfit.
