The Wales star, who was injured for the third and final Test, also offered commiserations to the Wallabies after Alex Corbisiero, Jonny Sexton, George North and Jamie Roberts ran in tries to secure a comfortable win.

Warburton said afterwards: "Firstly, unlucky to the Australian boys. They made it very tough to us and it was an immense series so unlucky to them. To our boys, a massive well done. We worked so hard for this.

"To all the fans who spent thousands and thousands of pounds to come half way across the world to come and watch us play, a huge thankyou - it's made our tour.

"It's been a squad effort from all 40 of the boys and the management. They are so many people involved in this - not just the players."

Clinical

Wales centre Roberts, who returned from injury to cross for a try, said: "We spoke before the game about keeping our heads and everyone knew the importance of today. The guys were really disciplined today in attack and defence. It was clinical rugby.

"Our contact area was fantastic and the scrum was very dominant. It's not just the players - it's the backroom staff and the 'Sea of Red' as we like to call it!"

Man of the series Leigh Halfpenny, who kicked 40 from 45 on tour, added: "The pack were outstanding today. Everyone has contributed to this today. It's what dreams are made of. I dreamed of this my whole life. It's a huge honour."
