Bayonne and Toulon are leading the race to sign Matt Giteau after the Brumbies revealed the Australia international is set to leave after the World Cup.
The 91-Test veteran is out of contract after the tournament in New Zealand and he looks set to move abroad.
France is the most likely destination for the playmaker, with Bayonne and Toulon both having the backing to finance any deal.
And the Brumbies have confirmed that they have known for a while that Giteau was set to leave at the end of the season.
"For me it's a non-issue but as much as we'd love him to stay in Australia, we've known that it was more than likely to happen," said Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan.
"None of this comes as a surprise and that's why we've recruited the way we have," making reference to holding onto Matt Toomua and Christian Lealiifano, both targeted by the Melbourne Rebels, and recruiting Queanbeyan young gun Robbie Coleman."
