Prop Shaun Knight is leaving Gloucester and moving to the Guinness PRO12 with the Newport-Gwent Dragons.

The 25-year-old made 77 competitive appearances for the Aviva Premiership club and featured for England U20 at the Junior World Championships in 2009 and 2010.

But the arrival of international props John Afoa and Sila Puafisi last season meant Knight's opportunities were limited and that has prompted his move across the border.

"Shaun is at the stage of his career when he needs to be playing regular first team rugby. The Dragons will hopefully provide him with more chances in that respect," said Gloucester's director of rugby David Humphreys.

"It's a shame when a local lad moves on, but this is a real opportunity for Shaun. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best as he's been a popular member of the squad."

Knight added: “I am really happy to have signed a contract with Newport Gwent Dragons. I start pre-season training with the squad on Thursday and am excited to know where this new challenge in my career will take me.

“The opportunity for me to move from Gloucester was there and after meeting with Kingsley (Jones) and Lyn (Jones), I felt that it was the right time to do so.

“I know a couple of the front rowers they have at the Region and look forward to learning off the experienced props like Boris (Stankovich) and Brok (Harris).”
