Australia scrum-half Will Genia will join Stade Francais from Queensland Reds after this year's World Cup.

The 27-year-old has played for the Reds since 2007 and made his debut for the Wallabies in 2009 - gaining a nomination for IRB Player of the Year award two years later.

After Genia signed a three-year contract to switch to Paris, Stade Francais president Thomas Savare said: "We can confirm that Will Genia will be part of our squad after the World Cup (which ends October 31). It's a great signing and one which will strengthen our squad in a vital position."

Stade Francais, currently sitting third in the Top 14, already have scrum-halves Julien Dupuy or Julien Tomas on their roster and Savare added: "It will spark some competition and that's always good."

Premiership club Bath had previously been thought to be leading the race to prise Genia away from Super Rugby.

"There had been discussions," admitted Savare. "We had to talk to Bath and found a solution that makes everyone happy."
