French side activates clause in Jersey ace's contract

Jersey have confirmed Richard Haughton is to leave the club in order to move to Perpignan. Former England Sevens ace Haughton only teamed up with the RFU Championship new boys in the summer following his release from Wasps. However Perpignan have now activated a clause in his contract allowing him to move to a top-level club. The Top 14 outfit have agreed a six-month deal with the 31-year-old after full-back Sofiane Guitoune was ruled out with a serious injury. Jersey boss Ben Harvey told the club's official site: "We're disappointed, but a player like Richard, who has played club rugby at the top level, was likely to attract interest of this kind, and had a clause in his contract if such an opportunity arose. We can't compete financially with a club the size of Perpignan. "We've enjoyed having Richard in the squad for the past two months, other players have learned a lot from him and, subject to the medical and registration details, he will go with our best wishes."
