The former World Cup-winner, who has made 50 appearances for the All Blacks, is the only specialist senior fly-half in Cotter's Montpellier squad.

Cotter alternated between scrum-half Benoit Paillaugue and Thomas Darmon while Cruden was sidelined with a thigh injury in October.
