Tony Rea: Considering recalling Michael Witt

The London Broncos will be looking to end their five-game losing streak against fellow strugglers the Salford City Reds on Saturday afternoon.

Tony Rea is back in charge of the Broncos with the visit of Salford his third game at the helm after defeats to the Wigan Warriors and Catalan Dragons.

However, they were a much-improved side last time out with Super League's bottom club only losing 19-12 in the south of France having failed to threaten victory in recent weeks.

Salford have slipped up of late, following up a 24-22 success at Hull KR with back-to-back losses to Widnes and Hull FC in their last two league contests.

Rea is confident he can guide his side to an elusive victory, despite the capital club only winning three of their 22 top-flight games this season.

"The team knows the effort levels required for this very important game," commented the Australian tactician.

"We'll be looking to be better each day and raise our performance standards to a level that we know is inside us."

Recall

Rea is considering a recall for Australian stand-off Michael Witt but it is the Londoners' big pack that pose the biggest threat to Salford, according to Salford boss Phil Veivers.

"(Antonio) Kaufusi is not very small, neither are (Scott) Wheeldon and (Mark) Bryant," he said. "They are pretty big units.

"They have also got a skilful back rower in (Chris) Bailey, crafty half-backs and pace on the wings. There are definite threats right across the board."

Second rower Vinnie Anderson definitely returns after recovering from a bruised shoulder, although Sean Long is unlikely to make his comeback as he has picked up a finger injury sustained playing rugby union.

Veivers has admitted to be frustrated by the club's inconsistent form: "It's been pretty frustrating the last two weeks.

"If you put another four points in there, it's a different kettle of fish. All we can do is concentrate on the next game and that is London who are a very dangerous team."
