Sherwin: Delighted
Castleford's Brent Sherwin believes his side's shock 38-20 victory over World Club champions Leeds Rhinos was just reward for a "great team effort".
Few gave the previously winless Tigers a chance against Leeds, however tries from Joe Westerman, Stuart Donlan, Luke Dorn (2) and Ryan McGoldrick, Michael Shenton (2) - plus 10 points from the boot of Westerman - sealed a memorable win.
And man-of-the-match Sherwin believes that the win had been coming for last season's National League One champions.
He told Sky Sports: "We watched them play last Friday night against Melbourne and the played really well so we knew it would be a tussle.
"But the forwards and backs all put it together and it was a great team effort.
"We haven't played too bad over the last few weeks but we finally put it together and put in a good performance to reap the rewards."
Castleford had gone agonisingly close to a first win of the season against Harlequins only for them to concede two late tries.
And Sherwin insists that the Tigers had learned their lesson from that defeat.
He added: "Leeds will keep trying to the final bell and we knew that, so knew we had to play for the full 80 minutes.
"Last week we fell two minutes short and that really hurt us however tonight we did the full 80 and I'm delighted."
Leeds did push Cas all the way, with Scott Donald crossing for a hat-tick - however Rhinos winger was full of praise of the Tigers.
"It is always nice to score tries but it just wasn't our night tonight," he said.
"Full credit to Cas as they played a great game.
"Cas played brilliantly tonight, Ryan McGoldrick was great at dummy half and they got a good go-forward."
Having toppled Melbourne Storm last week, Leeds were expected to brush aside Castleford with ease - however Donald denied the Rhinos were suffering from that win.
"I wouldn't say that," he said. "We came here full of confidence, everyone was ready for it and we prepared like we normally do but unfortunately things didn't go our way."
