McClennan: Delighted

Leeds coach Brian McClennan hailed his side's dogged determination after the Rhinos came from behind to beat the Catalans Dragons 37-24.

It was an impressive victory given the game was played in stiflingly hot conditions and the Catalans have made Stade Gilbert Brutus something of a fortress.

The home side looked set to extend their unbeaten run to eight games as the Rhinos were behind at the break.

But, inspired by the outstanding Ali Lauitiiti, the visitors finished strongly and Scott Donald's magnificent try capped a fine display.

The victory saw the Rhinos go back level with St Helens at the summit of the Super League, with coach McClennan delighted with the result.

Hailing his side, he said: "We showed a lot of character against a very tenacious side who are doing some terrific things over here.

"I have full respect for them and they made it very tough but we hung in there. Scotty Donald's brilliance on a kick return was a very good effort and we're extremely pleased with the outcome.

"The first half was very hot but when the sun went down it notably cooled. We took JP (Jamie Peacock) and Kylie (Leuluai) off early because we felt the game would be won in the fourth quarter.

"Fortunately the team showed dogged determination and this is a very, very important win although there is a long way to go in this competition. We've ticked some boxes over the last couple of weeks but we've still got a lot to do."

Potter pleased

Despite a first defeat at home since early March, Catalans coach Mick Potter was proud of his side, believing they had given their all in front of a stadium record crowd.

He said: "The guys are tired and I'm very proud of them, we were just on the wrong end of the scoreboard.

"We played for 60 minutes without a winger after Dimitri Pelo went off and we had a second rower covering out there.

"We were vulnerable on the edges and against a side like that, they found us out. I'm not looking that far ahead as regards how Super League will go, we have a week off and I hope Leeds and Saints rough each other up next week, I think their cup semi will be a fantastic match."
