Matterson: Impressed by his side's display at the Twickenham Stoop

Castleford coach Terry Matterson hailed his Tigers after their 13-try demolition job on Harlequins at the Twickenham Stoop.

The visitors belied their position at the foot of the engage Super League with a tremendous display in the capital to claim just their fifth win of the campaign.

Luke Dorn, Richard Owen and Michael Shenton all crossed for hat-tricks while Kirk Dixon slotted over seven conversions.

Matterson felt the Castleford pack laid the platform for the one-sided win that leaves them two points back of Huddersfield in the battle to avoid the wooden spoon.

Attacking

"Everyone knows we can play some really good attacking football but our defence was also excellent today," he said.

"There is no reason for us to be complacent - you just have to look at the table. But we are trying to get off the bottom and if we can continue playing like this then anything's possible.

"We understood that they had a lot of difficulties, especially out wide and we took advantage of that.

"But we still had to perform - and I thought our forwards did a great job of laying the platform and the backs got their reward.

"We continued to be direct and we ran hard and it was great to watch."

Proud

Harlequins coach Brian McDermott refused to be too critical of his patched up side that were missing five players through suspension.

The home side did manage first-half scores from Chris Melling and Jonny Grayshon but were blown away in the second 40 minutes, conceding eight unanswered tries.

"We have a lot of young players in there and you cannot leave them in there week-in, week-out," he said.

"These guys need a rest but we do not have the option of doing that. It is too easy to accuse people.

"But these guys have to show up every single week and keep putting their bodies on the line and I am proud of them for that."
