Anderson: Happy with display

St Helens coach Daniel Anderson dubbed Maurie Fa'asavalu a 'beast' after the forward's two-try display against Huddersfield.

After scoring for England against France on Friday night the forward went one better at Knowsley Road, helping himself to a brace off the bench.

Centre Willie Talau also crossed twice for the home side in a 46-16 victory that moves Saints back to within two points of league leaders Leeds.

The only disappointment for the home side was an injury to Sean Long, though Anderson remained pleased with the performance.

"Maurie is a beast and was brilliant. He just loves it," said Anderson.

"We were very sharp for 60 minutes until a little bit of fatigue kicked in. Sean Long went off with a nasty cork but I am very happy overall."

Possession

While Saints continue to soar - they have now won 12 games on the trot - Huddersfield are left struggling at the foot of Super League.

Joint caretaker coach Kieron Purtill admitted that the Giants, who handed a debut to David Hodgson, had paid a heavy price for giving away penalties

"You can't give a team like St Helens that much possession," he said.

"I'm disappointed with the penalty count but the referee has a job to do and we need to smarten up in that area

"We showed in the last quarter we have our pride and won't give up. We will keep on fighting.

"We expected St Helens to play most of their international players because they are elite athletes."
