Pryce: Praised by his coach after superb performance

Daniel Anderson hailed the performance of Leon Pryce after the stand-off helped St Helens take over at the top of the engage Super League.

The Great Britain international was at his very best, scoring one try and setting up three others in a 54-0 win over Harlequins.

The 10-try demolition job means Saints, who have won their last 13 matches, leapfrog Leeds at the summit on points difference.

"I thought Leon was absolutely brilliant today - he was totally on fire," Anderson said.

"He has trained exceptionally hard over the last two years to get to where he is today.

"He came originally with a completely different body shape and has really worked hard."

Exceptional

Saints coach Anderson admitted his team's display in the capital had at times left him gobsmacked, although he insists there is still room for improvement.

"It was a very, very good performance," the former New Zealand boss commented.

"We scored some exceptional tries today - I was gobsmacked myself. We were by no means perfect but it was a great display.

"I don't really think league positions are relevant at this stage. We are just worrying about us and things will take care of themselves."

White hot

Opposite number Brian McDermott felt his injury-hit Quins side fought valiantly against a Saints team that "were just white hot".

"The scoreline makes it look like we rolled over but we did not," he admitted. "Saints were just white hot.

"It is worrying for the rest of the competition the way they are playing at the moment.

"We are struggling with injuries but that would be too easy an answer. It is a reason but it is not an excuse. We just have to put our bodies on the line and battle through."
