Wigan coach Brian Noble was a happy man after seeing his side crush Harlequins 40-12 in the Super League on Friday night.

The Warriors ran in eight tries at the JJB Stadium as the Londoners fell apart following the sending off of David Howell.

Howell was shown the red card for a nasty elbow-led challenge on Sam Tomkins when Wigan were already 14-6 to the good.

"I thought it was a good show all round," stated Noble.

"We got a bit sloppy in the last 10 minutes but that is credit to Harlequins, they are a team that are never going to go away.

"We started well, our go-forward was good and our kicking was good.

"The game was probably out of reach for them at half-time with the sending off as well.

"My eyesight's not so good - I can't quite see the screen - but it certainly looked like a forearm or an elbow."

Tomkins, who signed a new long-term contract this week, was named man of the match but blotted his copybook late on with a sin-binning for dissent.

"I've had a word with him as well so that message has been reinforced," added Noble.

"But he actually got sin-binned for putting his thumb up. I don't think that was disrespectful - I think he was agreeing with the referee. I don't think he said anything."

McDermott disappointed

Harlequins coach Brian McDermott cut a hugely disappointed figure after the contest and said: "We did start slowly and then David Howell getting sent off didn't help.

"In the second half I thought we were very brave and carried on playing.

"It sometimes hurt us playing because we lost the ball but I would rather do that than go into damage control. I didn't think we did that."
