Hull KR boss Justin Morgan lavished praise on his pack after Rovers romped to a 30-12 victory over Salford City Reds at Craven Park.

More than 9,000 fans saw Rovers get their Super League campaign off to a winning start as Salford were over powered in East Yorkshire.

Rovers ran in five tries during the win, however it was his side's defensive display which attracted praise from Morgan after the match.

He said: "I think it was a fairly sound performance. We won the territory exceptionally well and made them come out of their end for a lot of the game and in those conditions it is hard for anybody.

"I thought our pack worked exceptionally well," added Morgan, who was also pleased with the performances of Paul Cooke at loose forward and Jake Webster at stand-off.

"I thought it worked really well but like any new combination it is going to take some time for them to find their feet but with the number of times they challenged the line today it is work in progress, but it is something we will continue to persevere with."

Energy

Reds coach Shaun McRae was far from downbeat after the defeat.

He said: "It was a poor start from us really but I thought we did tremendously well for for the remainder of the game.

"I am pleased about the way we fought. But that start set us back. I think seven out of the first 10 sets went to Hull KR.

"We could not seem to get out of 30-40 metre zone very well and that couple of early tries gave them some confidence and energy and it took us a while to get into the game.

"Overall I did not think we deserved to win the match and Hull KR were better than us but I liked the way we fought and showed plenty of character in what was our first outing against Super League opposition.

McRae also gave Reds fans some hope they could avoid relegation this season.

He said: "We are better adjusted to Super League this time."
