Justin Morgan has hailed Hull KR's gutsy performance after they grabbed a last-gasp win against St Helens on Sunday.

Ben Fisher emerged as the hero for the home side after he crossed the try-line to make it 28-24 just as victory seemed to have slipped through their fingers.

Morgan praised his side's never-say-die attitude but realised that there is still much room for improvement at New Craven Park.

"We did show some more grit and determination at times, but we need to become a bit smarter," he said.

"We rallied round nicely in the last 10 minutes and it was a nice decisive play from Ben Fisher to get the winner.

"I thought we pretty solid for the first 25 to 30 minutes, apart from their score, and went on and racked up three tries."

The 34-year-old was pleased with commitment of all members of his team, but he singled out Rhys Lovegrove and hooker Scott Murrell for special praise.

"He did a great job for us," Morgan said of Lovegrove.

Speaking of Murrell, he added: "When we you ask him to do something it's usually at 100mph and he usually does it very well."

Potter downbeat

Saints coach Mick Potter lamented the way his side invited pressure onto themselves, saying a Hull KR breakthrough was inevitable in the end.

The visitors came back from 16-8 down to lead 24-22, but could not hold on as their opponents surged toward their try-line in the dying stages.

He said: "They had 40-odd tackles on our line. That may be something to do with how well KR played, but at the end of the day the responsibility comes back on us.

"We needed to get them off our line for 40-odd plays. I don't think many teams can hold out for that length of time."
