Morgan: 'Bouncebackability'
Hull KR coach Justin Morgan was understandably thrilled after watching his side beat Leeds to record their first victory at Headingley in 25 years.
Liam Colbon, Peter Fox and Shaun Briscoe all touched down in the first-half for the Robins and although Leeds managed to reduce the deficit to six points with a reply from Keith Senior, the visitors held on for a 17-10 win.
Morgan, whose side lost out 31-18 to Wakefield last weekend, said: "I'm very pleased. I think it's appropriate to use 'bouncebackability' this week.
"I think Iain Dowie, who has been welcomed to our wonderful city, invented the phrase, so it was great from that point of view and it's been 25 years since Hull KR won at Headingley.
"We've been very close a couple of times but it's very satisfying to get the points."
Hull KR succumbed to the Rhinos three times last season and the defending Super League champions were expected to battle back on Friday.
However, according to Morgan: "We dug in. We showed some of the characteristics that we'd much prefer to see.
"We're a team that's based on working really hard for each other. I thought we did that defensively a lot of the time during the game.
"Our effort on the inside was very evident.
"At different stages Leeds threw plenty at us and we did well to repel that and get the victory."
With Hull KR's Headingley hoodoo finally at an end, Morgan said he now wanted his side to follow-up the memorable result.
"It's the same two points you get every week," he said. "I'm not jumping to the sky just yet. Like any win you have to back it up with another to make it worthwhile."
Meanwhile, despite his side slumping to a fourth defeat in seven matches, Leeds head coach Brian McClennan said he was pleased with their performance given the inexperienced line-up that was forced to take the field.
The Rhinos were missing Kallum Watkins, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Leeds' defeat to Huddersfield, Scott Donald (dislocated shoulder) and back rowers Greg Eastwood (fractured wrist) and Carl Ablett (ankle).
Captain Kevin Sinfield (thigh) was also an absentee, and McClennan said: "It's just the way it goes and we're not going to use injuries as an excuse for our position in the table.
"It's part and parcel of the season and other clubs will go through this too hopefully.
"We'll keep working hard and we'll work our way back."
McClennan insisted his side did enough to win the match, adding: "I'm really proud of the lads they dug in and tried very hard. We had to do too much tackling in the last quarter than we'd have liked.
"But if we have got a little bit more ball we would have come home.
"We created chances throughout the game to dot down but we just didn't get over the line."
