Webster wants more of same

McDermott: Dejected

I am disappointed and I am frustrated and so are the players. We have a proud group of players here and some are close to tears about how poorly they played.

Hull assistant coach James Webster is determined his side keep up the pressure following their 42-18 victory over Harlequins.

The Airlie Birds ran in seven tries but still had to hold off a Quins revival in the second half at the Twickenham Stoop on Saturday.

Webster now expects more of the same from the Black and Whites over the remainder of their engage Super League campaign.

"Of course it is very important that we finish as high as we can in the table," he said.

"We are really excited about the performance today and that is something we have to match over the final four rounds.

"We came here with a real level of determination after the defeat to Wigan last week and we really put that behind us.

"We have a week off now next week and the key for us is looking forward and making sure we take our place in the play-off semi-finals."

Webster was particularly delighted to end Hull's jinx in the capital, as they recorded their first ever win at the famous Twickenham Stoop ground.

Outstanding

"We all knew we had a terrible record down here and that was something we all talked about in training this week," he added.

"There were some really motivated players out there today and you could argue that our first-half performance was the best we have played all season.

"It was absolutely outstanding and we are all delighted."

Quins second-half fightback looked like it might reap dividends for the hosts until late scores from Jordan Tansey and Mark O'Meley ended any hopes they had.

Dejected Quins coach Brian McDermott said: "At the moment it seems to be an issue with our mentality.

"We really lacked direction and the first half performance was unacceptable. I am disappointed and I am frustrated and so are the players.

"We have a proud group of players here and some are close to tears about how poorly they played.

"We know we cannot make the play-offs but in many ways that is irrelevant.

"We have four games left now and we have to give everything we have to finish as strongly as we can."
