Hull coach Peter Gentle paid tribute to his side's defensive display following their 46-10 victory over Huddersfield in Sunday's Super League play-off clash at the KC Stadium.

Wingers Tom Briscoe and Jamie Foster scored two tries apiece and Gentle was satisfied with the performance.

He said: "We gave ourselves a good chance with our defence.

"Our forwards aimed up to a lot bigger pack and really took it to them from the start.

"The blokes who came off the bench kicked off where the others left off so it was a great team effort.

Benchmark

"If you look at St Helens and Wigan who both won at the weekend, they were very aggressive in their defence.

"Wigan and St Helens set the benchmark and I think we matched them today."

Giants' coach Paul Anderson added: "We just didn't perform. The most physical, most aggressive and best team won.

"Sometimes we just stood there and watched them. There will now be a period of reflection and contemplation and create a mentality that understands that that is not acceptable.

"We are a good team but we need to look at what we are doing - recruitment will now kick in."
