it is some achievement and he has been a great servant to the club, a world-class winger and he's doing a pretty good job for us a centre at the moment.

Warrington coach Tony Smith hailed Joel Monaghan's "incredible strike rate" after the winger made it to a century of tries for the club in the 42-10 win over Catalan Dragons.

Australian Monaghan touched down twice in his 100th appearance for the Wolves to help them bounce back from their disappointing away defeat to Bradford last time out.

The former Canberra Raider has been prolific since arriving at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, much to the delight of his head coach.

"It's an incredible strike rate and he has been terrific for us," Smith said.

"We weren't sure he was going to make it tonight because he had some tightness in the warm-up, but he came through and did a good job for us.

"I was thinking how many years I would have had to play to score 101 tries and I reckon 310 years.

"But, seriously, it is some achievement and he has been a great servant to the club, a world-class winger and he's doing a pretty good job for us a centre at the moment."

Defensive effort

Although Warrington scored seven tries, Smith was particularly pleased with his team's efforts in defence.

He added: "We have been working hard on some things and our defence was very good tonight and there was also a massive improvement in our kicking game.

"Chris Bridge and Stefan Ratchford were very good in the halves. Stef did a lot of good things after having a few weeks off and showed his abilities, while Chris is going well in the half-back position, doing a good job and his kicking game was outstanding.

"Once again Chris Hill keeps coming up with performance after performance. Whether we are winning or losing, he's doing really well for us.

"With 15 games left we will keep plugging away and see where we get to at the end of the season.

"I felt for Catalan, they are a good and dangerous team and I like watching them play and admire their style, but it wasn't going to be their night."

Opposite number Laurent Frayssinous felt his side learned a 'tough lesson' as their recent run of good results in Super League came to a shuddering halt.

"I'm very disappointed. The lack of ball control and possession was pretty poor and it's pretty hard on the back of that to perform," the Frenchman said.

"You can't keep defending and defending against a team like Warrington and it just became too hard for us.

"Against any opposition at this level, if you don't respect the ball you can't challenge the opposition.

"We know we have quality players who can play and do something special with the ball and respect it, but that was not the case tonight.

"We need to keep working hard and learning, because we had a very tough lesson tonight."
