Daryl Powell: watched another Castleford win

Overall I thought it was a fantastic effort by a group of blokes who were really committed, enthusiastic and determined in everything that they were doing.

Castleford head coach Daryl Powell was delighted with his players after the 54-12 win over Hull KR took the Tigers to within two points of top spot.

Cas are showing no signs of letting up in the race to Old Trafford, and their coach is enjoying watching his team play.

"I thought we played really well in the first 40 (minutes)," he said. "We've had some really good halves of rugby league this season, but obviously to nil a team like Hull KR is a great effort defensively.

"With the ball we just look so vibrant at times. When we open our game up, we come up with some special things, so obviously delighted to get the win.

"Overall I thought it was a fantastic effort by a group of blokes who were really committed, enthusiastic and determined in everything that they were doing."

Powell admitted Castleford, who face Wigan in the Tetley's Challenge Cup quarter-finals next week, are ahead of where he expected them to be at this stage of the campaign.

"It's tough to expect we would have won as many games as we have," he added.

"As we have created a platform for ourselves, we are always reassessing where we are at and what we need to do to maintain where we are.

Improving

"We are obviously trying to improve as well, and I think the signs are we are improving on a weekly basis."

Opposite number Craig Sandercock paid tribute to the Tigers while admitting his huge disappointment with Rovers' performance, which was not helped by the second-half dismissal of Michael Weyman for dissent.

"There are no positives," he said. "That first 20 minutes we needed a lot better. We got too frustrated and went off our game-plan.

"The boys have got to learn when things go against them not to react in a negative way and we did that today.

"We paid the ultimate price and full credit to Cas - they were red hot. Everything they did turned to gold and that is why they are up at the top of the ladder."

On Weynan's sending-off, he added: "I thought it was a yellow card. I need to get some clarity on that. It was disappointing he got sent off, that's for sure."
