Super League: Salford City Reds stage thrilling comeback against Hull KR
Salford overturned a 20-point deficit in the last half-hour to beat Hull KR 38-34 and claim their first win of the season.
The Reds had lost three straight and looked set for a hiding as a rampant Rovers side led 34-14 just 10 minutes into the second half.
But the hosts scored four unanswered tries in a thrilling comeback, Danny Williams grabbing the match-winner with six minutes remaining.
Rovers stormed ahead with two tries in the opening 10 minutes, both converted by the outstanding Michael Dobson.
Dobson and Greg Eden combined to send David Hodgson over in the corner, then Hodgson returned the favour, cutting in off his wing to put Dobson in.
Salford hit back with Marc Sneyd's long pass allowing Ashley Gibson to cut inside for his third try of the season.
Sneyd was involved again with Gibson beating Amaro Cari to a neat kick for his second touchdown in four minutes.
But Sneyd was again off target with the conversion attempt to leave the Reds trailing 12-8.
Sneyd made amends in style as he stole the ball from Eden on the Rovers line to touch down and add the conversion to make it 14-12.
Eden hit back as he took Cory Paterson's smart pass to send Dobson streaking over within a minute to restore the Rovers' lead at 18-14.
The final delivery looked suspiciously forward but there was no dispute about Eden's pass to Caro which stretched the advantage to 24-14 three minutes before the break.
Eden took only four minutes of the second half to put Rovers into a more commanding position when he took Dobson's pass to round Murphy and make it 30-14.
Eden bagged a second before Andrew Dixon got on the end of Sneyd's grubber kick to launch the comeback.
Moments later Jack Murphy fended off four defenders on his way to the try-line and when Wayne Godwin stetched over from dummy half from a metre out and Sneyd converted, the Reds were within two points with eight minutes left.
Ryan McGoldrick set up the match-winner as his well-weighted kick eluded Eden on the bounce and Williams collected to gleefully crash over.
Salford endured an anxious five minutes but defended their line stoutly and even the late dismissal of their prop Lee Jewitt for exchanging blows with Adam Walker at a scrum will take none of the gloss off this remarkable victory.
