Veteran winger David Hodgson scored two tries as Hull KR got the better of city rivals Hull FC 23-10 at the KC Stadium.

The Rovers controlled the first half and led 12-0 at the break thanks to scores from Josh Hodgson and David Hodgson.

Jason Crookes pulled one back after the break, but further tries from David Hodgson and Kris Welham put the game out of sight.

Danny Tickle touched down in the closing stages for Peter Gentle's side, although it was only a consolation for the Black and Whites.

Both teams started with typical derby intensity and the first attacking kick of real note came after five minutes with Richard Horne unable to handle Travis Burns' high bomb, but luckily he regathered after the bounce.

Pressure

In the next set KR's pressure told as Ben Galea knocked-on 10 metres out from a poor Tom Briscoe offload. A penalty followed and a couple of plays later Josh Hodgson barged over from dummy-half, exposing some week marker play in the process. Craig Hall added the conversion to build a six-point lead.

Hall then added a penalty goal for an eight-point advantage, and Burns, leading well in the absence of Dobson, provided a dangerous kick which gave KR a penalty close to the line. Some swift hands wide left by Cory Paterson and Hall allowed David Hodgson to slide in for their second try.

Six minutes later Crookes was brought down by a reckless high tackle from Burns. Just before the break Graeme Horne was penalised and sin-binned for a high tackle.

Hull FC could not take advantage as unstructured attacking play had Richard Horne's pass hit the floor before Briscoe was held on the final tackle.

Within the 90 seconds of the restart Hull FC broke wide left with good hands from Whiting allowing Crookes to dive over in the corner despite the attention of Greg Eden. Tickle missed the conversion to leave an eight-point gap.

Converted

Despite losing Burns to a shoulder injury a great pass by Welham had David Hodgson over for his second try, and Hall converted from the touchline to get a three score lead at 18-4.

FC fought back as Horne forced a drop-out for the Black and Whites with a neat kick that trapped Eden in-goal, but on the next set Welham comfortably took another kick by Horne.

Pressure from the Airlie Birds brought no points and back-to-back penalties for KR allowed Paterson to play an excellent short ball which saw Welham over for the score with 15 minutes remaining.

A drop-goal by Hall with seven minutes remaining added the icing on the cake for Rovers before Tickle grabbed a late consolation but Rovers went four points clear of their rivals with the win.
