Rhys Hanbury scored three tries as Widnes moved six points clear of bottom club Castleford with a 58-24 victory over Salford.
The Vikings ran in 10 tries in all, with Cameron Phelps also notching a hat-trick and Jack Owens booting eight goals.
Widnes made a flying start with full-back Hanbury sprinting on to Brown's well-judged kick in the second minute and Owens booting the touchline conversion.
Clarke then took Owens' inside pass to stretch the advantage to 10-0 after 13 minutes, reward for an enterprising start by the Vikings with Kevin Brown calling the shots in midfield and Salford lost recent signing Lee Gaskell with a leg injury to hamper their cause.
The Vikings added a third try with Owens taking Hanbury's smart off-load to send Phelps over midway through the first half and stretch the lead to 16-0.
Salford opened their account with a fortunate try after Marc Sneyd's kick bounced favourably for Theo Fages to touch down and cut the gap to 16-6.
Then Lee Jewitt plunged over from short range although Widnes were convinced they should have been awarded a penalty for obstruction in the build-up, with Sneyd's second conversion reducing the Widnes lead to four points.
But Widnes breathed a little easier after Ben Kavanagh's storming midfield break saw Alex Gerrard put Hanbury over for his second try and Phelps touched down from Hanbury's inside pass to leave Widnes 28-12 in front at the break.
Any faint hopes of a Salford comeback faded early in the second half with Hanbury's break setting up a try for Joe Mellor and Owens booting his fifth conversion.
Hanbury completed his treble before Jodie Broughton's long-range breakaway try made it 40-18.
Hanbury's scorching break gave Phelps his hat-trick try to add to Salford's woes.
Jordan James added a fourth try for the Reds after 66 minutes but Widnes replied through Frank Winterstein before Brown celebrated his comeback with the final touchdown.
