Jimmy Keinhorst grabbed a hat-trick of tries on his first appearance for four months to help Leeds overcome a spirited Castleford and end their four-match losing run with a 42-24 success at Headingley.

Keinhorst made his mark on his return from a dual-registration spell with part-time neighbours Hunslet while 18-year-old winger Thomas Minns enjoyed his debut with the game's first try.

The champions were also indebted to a magnificent effort from veteran prop Jamie Peacock, who made his comeback a fortnight earlier than expected from a knee injury to lay the platform for the victory with a 68-minute display of power-packed rugby.

Castleford also played their part in a high-class match, with Rangi Chase a constant threat with his dazzling ball-handling skills and former Leeds player Jordan Tansey scoring two of their four tries.

Leeds, and Minns in particular, made a dream start when the first of a series of trademark mazy runs from Burrow created the position for McShane to get the youngster over for the game's first try with just four minutes on the clock.

But Leeds could not take their eyes off Chase, whose long pass got centre Michael Shenton racing through the Rhinos defence and the supporting Weller Hauraki dummied his way past Zak Hardaker for his first try for the club against his old team-mates.

Jamie Ellis' conversion edged the Tigers into a 6-4 lead but the champions showed their class with two tries in three minutes midway through the first half to seize control.

Held up

Props Ryan Bailey and Peacock were both held up over the line before Burrow got Keinhorst slipping through a gap in the Castleford defence to score his first try of the season.

Hardaker then brought the 17,035 crowd to its feet with a glorious 70-metre solo effort, taking Peacock's pass to go on an arcing run through the visitors' defence and accelerating past full-back Tansey to touch down.

Sinfield added both goals to put his side into a 16-6 lead but the Tigers were right back in the game four minutes before the break when highly-rated hooker Daryl Clark picked up a loose ball and raced into space to send Tansey over for a second try.

And they were back in front five minutes into the second half when prop Grant Millington broke from deep inside his own half to get Tansey over for his second try and Ellis' third goal made it 18-16.

The lead was once more short-lived as winger Ryan Hall reclaimed the ball from Sinfield's pinpoint kick to the corner and got Keinhorst over for his second try.

Sinfield's third goal made it 22-18 and Leeds almost scored again when centre Joel Moon broke clear but Minns was unable to take the final pass.

The decisive try came on 62 minutes and it was a carbon copy of the previous effort, with Sinfield and Hall combining superbly to get Keinhorst over for his hat-trick.

Castleford prop Craig Huby gave his side renewed hope when he juggled with Weller Hauraki's pass to score a fourth try but replacement forward Ian Kirke powered his way over and Moon touched down Burrow's grubber kick to add late tries for the Rhinos.

Sinfield took his goal tally to seven from eight attempts to give his side a flattering margin of victory.
