Two tries from debutant Ben Blackmore helped Huddersfield Giants go to the top of Super League with a 48-32 victory over his former club Castleford on Sunday.
The 20-year-old winger's first came on 20 minutes in the right corner from Scott Grix's final pass after Danny Brough's 40-20 kick won Huddersfield a scrum, while his second - a solo score that capped a six-try first half - arrived on the hooter and gave the Giants a 36-4 interval lead.
The hosts were 30-0 up after just half an hour, with both sides reduced to 12 men near the break after an ugly brawl.
Third-bottom Castleford threatened a comeback by scoring four converted tries in the second period, but the Giants held on.
Joe Wardle set Huddersfield on their way on 12 minutes from Aaron's Murphy's pass. Danny Brough then weighed in with a stunning solo effort. The Man of Steel contender, who has broken though the 250-point barrier for the season, dispossessed Adam Milner and romped 70 metres to the line.
Brough converted all eight of Huddersfield's tries and has now hit 23 goals in last four outings.
Blackmore's brace was sandwiched between fine individual scores from Murphy on 22 minutes and Leroy Cudjoe six minutes later.
Michael Shenton held off Grix on a solo charge into the right corner on 37 minutes to get the visitors off the mark. Kirk Dixon missed the conversion.
Castleford's Grant Millington and Huddersfield's Larne Patrick were then both sin-binned for their roles in a bust-up near the away team's try-line.
The Tigers, who have not won at the John Smith's Stadium since a 13-6 victory in June 2009, scored twice early in the second half, and an unlikely comeback looked on when Rangi Chase burst through for a solo effort in a game full of individual brilliance on 55 minutes.
Dixon again converted to leave Daryl Powell's men only 14 points down at 36-22 with 25 minutes still left to play.
Weller Hauraki reduced the deficit even further on 66 minutes, and Dixon added the extras again to leave the visitors just two scores down.
But Huddersfield clung on in a tense finale, Murphy settling their nerves with a converted touchdown three minutes from time.
Carney went over for Castleford on the hooter, but Kyle Wood and Brough had the last word for Huddersfield with an instant reply at the other end.
It meant Huddersfield ended the week on a high after their challenge cup exit and a High Court ruling that their former prop Keith Mason was unlawfully dismissed.
