Jamie Peacock marked his 500th match with a try as Leeds thrashed Wakefield for a second time in less than a week, running out 42-6 winners at Headingley.

Peacock celebrated bringing up the milestone moment in terms of career appearances by touching down in the 58th minute against the same team he had faced when he making his debut for Bradford 15 years earlier.

In truth the Rhinos had already sewn up the two points by then, and they seemed set to record a shut-out success until Jarrod Sammut darted over with eight minutes left to play.

Still, it was no more than a consolation for the poor Wildcats, who had been crushed 60-6 by the same opponents at Belle Vue in the fourth round of the Tetley's Challenge Cup last Sunday.

Liam Sutcliffe, Ryan Hall, Tom Briscoe and Carl Ablett all crossed in the first half as ruthless Leeds made sure they showed no signs of complacency.

Wakefield's cause was not helped by the early loss of former Rhino Ali Lauitiiti with a leg injury and soon after they fell behind, Sutcliffe the man to go over.

Leeds did not have to wait long for their second try of the evening, Burrow kicking and finding Hall who brilliantly touched down out wide.

Space

Fellow winger Briscoe was also amongst the home scorers; neat interplay between Kevin Sinfield and Kallum Watkins created the space Mitch Achurch needed to dummy and pass back inside to the former Hull man.

Leeds forced three goal-line drop outs as half-time approached and the pressure finally told as Ablett crashed over after Leeds had switched the ball from right to left, Sinfield converting to make it 24-0.

Tom's younger brother Luke Briscoe failed to convert Wakefield's best chance of points in the opening 40 minutes, the on-loan Leeds player juggling the ball when he looked set to go in.

The match was more even in the first 15 minutes of the second half as the Wildcats tried to claw their way back into the contest.

Yet for all their efforts it was the home team who grabbed the next try, and a special one it was too as Peacock collected Rob Burrow's dab through to bring up the loudest cheer of the night.

Chris Clarkson soon followed him over the line before Wakefield half-back Sammut gave the travelling fans something to celebrate after a break by Paul McShane. The scorer also added the extras, making it 36-6.

Leeds were not finished there, though. Burrow scampered over and Sinfield slotted over the conversion, maintaining his perfect record. However, there was no doubt that Peacock was the star of the show.
