Castleford moved to within two points of the First Utility Super League summit with 64-18 thrashing of London Broncos at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Justin Carney scored a first-half hat-trick for the Tigers, Luke Dorn and Kirk Dixon each grabbed a brace of tries and five other players also crossed the line during a crushing 12-try win.

High-flying Castleford join Wigan and Leeds on 32 points while the already-relegated Broncos are running out of time to clinch their first win of the season.

The Tigers laid an early marker with a strong defensive set and almost took the lead in the fifth minute, only good covering defence by the Broncos preventing Ashley Gibson from touching down in the corner.

London worked their way into the contest and actually hit the front on nine minutes when Olsi Krasniqi took a short ball from Josh Drinkwater and rounded Dorn to score under the posts.

The Tigers' response was emphatic, Dixon defusing a high kick in his own in-goal and taking a quick tap before feeding former London man Dorn, who raced 70 metres to the Broncos line.

Erjon Dollapi came off the bench to aid London's cause and he made an immediate impact as he took a pass from Drinkwater and crashed over, with Drinkwater’s second conversion making it 12-6 to the visitors.

But the capital club's advantage again lasted only a matter of minutes, Carney touching down after London failed to deal with Liam Finn's low kick.

Tries

Carney watched last week's draw at Hull from the sidelines but made up for lost time as he crossed twice more within nine minutes to break London's spirit

Marc Sneyd laid on his next try with an inch-perfect kick before the imposing winger completed his treble after a typically barnstorming run to the corner.

Finn booted a 40/20 to deepen London's woes and that gave the Tigers the field position to go in for their fifth try of the afternoon through Scott Wheeldon, who finished things off after good work by Jamie Ellis.

London had a try chalked off for obstruction at the start of the second period and things went from bad to worse when Michael Shenton took a good pass from Sneyd to cross.

Garreth Carvell powered his way over from close range and Frankie Mariano got on the outside of his man to touch down, before Dixon got in on the act after collecting Finn's clever kick.

Dorn completed his brace following a break by Gibson and Dixon did likewise from Ellis' pinpoint kick.

Adam Milner then scored a try from the restart, the move beginning with Carney inside the Tigers 20 and proving to be the highlight of a one-sided match. Sneyd completed the Tigers’ scoring by dlotting over his eighth goal.

The impressive Mike McMeeken went over late on for the Broncos but the afternoon belonged to Castleford as they stretched their unbeaten run to six matches.
