Mark Henry scored four tries as Salford routed Batley 66-4 on Sunday to secure a spot in the Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

The gulf in class was all too evident between the Super League club and the Co-operative Championship bottom club at Mount Pleasant, with the Reds leading 48-0 at half-time.

Comfortable

They opened the scoring five minutes in, with Lee Sibbet making the initial break before Lee Jewitt found John Wilshere to cross the line. The full-back then picked himself up to convert and three minutes later the away side went over again.

The second score came through scrum-half Richard Myler dummeying his way past a static John Gallagher and diving over the line with a couple of Batley defenders still hanging on to him.

A third score for the visitors arrived in the 15th minute when the returning Willie Talau outjumped Ben Feehan and producing a one-handed under-arm pass to Henry on the left touchline, who scored. Wilshere added the extras.

Stefan Ratchford coasted though a gaping hole in the Batley defence in the 19th minute on his way to the line and as Wilshere continued to rack up the points Dean McGilvray went over in the corner for another.

Malcolm Alker then bulldozed his way over following some more poor field kicking from Paul Menell with Wilshere converting yet again.

Impact

Robbie Paul scored with his first touch of the game after Myler broke through the tiring Batley ranks and Henry ran the ball in for his second of the afternoon in the 33rd minute.

Henry claimed his hat-trick minutes into the second-half when the ball was spun wide to him and he sauntered his way over the line.

He helped himself to his fourth of the day when Myler's high, hanging kick was caught by the advancing winger.

Although it looked as though Feehan had claimed it, somehow Henry gathered the ball and crashed over the try line.

Centre Maun stretched for the line in the 57th minute to register Batley's only score and prevent the whitewash.

But Luke Adamson scored again at the death and Wilshere kicked the goal to wrap up a comprehensive 66-4 win for the Super League side.
