Castleford's miserable Easter campaign concluded with a 48-6 hiding at the hands of Leeds.

The Tigers came into the holiday period as one of the Super League's pacesetters but this third successive defeat leaves them slipping fast down the table.

By contrast, Leeds are on the up and this third straight win suggests their slow start to the season is well and truly over.

The Rhinos rode their luck at times in the first half but went on to completely dominate in the second and were good value for the win.

Castleford paid a heavy price for a couple of early penalties as Paul McShane put Kallum Watkins over on the short blind side for a second minute try. Kevin Sinfield failed to add the conversion but that was to be the skipper's only miss of the evening.

The Tigers had plenty of possession and good attacking territory but Leeds' defence was solid and when it was breached, Castleford still failed to score.

First Dixon was denied a try by Sinfield's knee, then two Rangi Chase passes which looked to have put Richard Owen over in the corner were ruled forward.

Fury

In between those two chalked-off scores, Jamie Jones-Buchanan scored from a McShane pass which also looked forward and this one stood - much to the home crowd's fury.

Sinfield added a penalty to stretch the lead to 12-0 and after Castleford finished the first half again camped on the Leeds line without forcing a score, things looked ominous for the Tigers.

So it proved after the beak as the Rhinos ran riot.

McShane's bullet pass put Ryan Hall over for a superb finish in the corner three minutes in, then the returning Danny McGuire and Jamie Peacock exchanged passes and the half-back skipped over.

Rob Burrow raced in for Leeds' fifth try and although Joe Arundel finally got Castleford on the board 10 minutes from time, Leeds ran in three more scores in the closing minutes.

McShane crowned a fine display by poaching a try from dummy half a metre out, Ian Kirke forced his way over for his first try of the season and right on the hooter Brent Webb dabbed in a short kick and Hall touched down for his second score.
