Wigan extended their lead at the top of the Super League table to three points as they notched their seventh successive league win with a 46-6 demolition of Salford at the DW Stadium.

Josh Charnley and Sam Tomkins both played starring roles and scored two tries apiece for the Warriors as they reached career landmarks of 100 and 150 tries respectively.

The hosts took command from the start with Charnley opening the scoring with a brilliant try down the touchline in the second minute following Darrell Goulding's break.

Matty Smith missed with the conversion attempt and he was also off target seven minutes later after Ben Flower had touched down from Sean O'Loughlin's fine short pass.

The one-way traffic continued with Anthony Gelling going over in the corner before O'Loughlin superbly set up Tomkins to get his name on the scoresheet for the ninth successive match, although Smith failed to convert both scores.

Salford then enjoyed a brief period of pressure but Wigan added a fifth try two minutes before the break through Liam Farrell with Charnley taking over the kicking duties to make it 22-0 at the interval.

Any hopes of a second-half comeback by the City Reds were quickly extinguished when Charnley doubled up from Tomkins' pass to notch his century of tries before adding the extras himself from the touchline.

It was then Lee Mossop's turn to power over before Tomkins' second try - Charnley returning the favour - took him to the 150 landmark.

Charnley maintained his perfect record with the boot by converting both scores and he took his points total for the night to 16 with another two points after Blake Green had added Wigan's ninth try from close range with seven minutes remaining.

Salford, whose performance was blighted by missed tackles and needless penalties conceded, grabbed a consolation try with two minutes left through Adam Walne, Marc Sneyd converting.
