Huddersfield emphatically moved within 80 minutes of a maiden Grand Final appearance with a 76-18 thrashing of Hull FC at John Smith's Stadium.

Luke Robinson scored four first-half tries as the Giants, beaten on home soil by Wigan in the opening round of the post season, set a new Super League record for points scored in a play-off fixture.

There were also braces for Leroy Cudjoe, Scott Grix, who would later leave the field with a groin injury, and Shaun Lunt, while Danny Brough set a post-season high with 12 successful kicks from 13 attempts.

The Black and Whites scored three tries of their own, winger Tom Briscoe getting two, but were badly embarrassed. They trailed 54-6 at the break as their season, which has included a Wembley appearance, ended on a particularly sour note.

The writing was on the wall when Huddersfield broke the deadlock inside a minute, hooker Lunt's break down the middle resulting in Cudjoe going over out wide.

A penalty for a high shot by Hull skipper Gareth Ellis led to Robinson getting his first from a Brough grubber. The same combination would work again later in the half to complete the former Wigan player's treble, with his other try coming courtesy of a dummy that opened enough of a gap for him to dart through.

By then Grix had already notched two himself and although the Black and Whites did have cause to query why Aaron Murphy's score in the left corner was awarded, replays suggesting he was in front of kicker Brett Ferres, in the grand scheme of things it made little difference.

Joe Wardle's run down the left wing set up an easy try back on the inside for Lunt, while there was still time before the break for Robinson to snare a fourth under the uprights for the team that lifted the League Leaders Shield.

In between the nine Huddersfield tries there was one moment of joy for the travelling Hull fans, Jamie Shaul sneaking in to grab a high kick from Daniel Holdsworth that was carelessly allowed to bounce by the home defence.

However there was understandably a few boos from those supporters wearing Black and White when the half-time hooter sounded to end their agony, at least temporarily. For Shaul the agony came early in the second half, as his game ended early due to a leg injury.

Hull at least crossed twice after the break, Briscoe getting both of them to take his career tally to 100 in what is set to be his final game for the club.

The winger cut back inside off his left foot to get his first and then climbed high to reel in a Holdsworth bomb whilst Jermaine McGillvary stood and waited for it to drop into his hands.

Yet Huddersfield showed no mercy in the closing stages, Lunt completing his double before Ferres capitalised on a video referee decision on a ball coming loose to record the simplest of scores.

Before the end Craig Kopczak accepted a lovely offload from man-of-the-match Robinson to make it a lucky 13 tries. Warrington will now have to decide if they want to face the in-form Giants next, otherwise it's a rematch against Wigan with a place at Old Trafford on the line.
