Hull KR made it successive Super League wins for the first time since last July as they cruised to a 44-6 victory over Wakefield at the KC Lightstream Stadium.

The Robins had Omari Caro, Josh Hodgson and Kris Welham all cross for two tries while Neville Costigan and Kris Keating also touched down and Travis Burns kicked 12 points.

Jarrod Sammut converted Pita Godinet's late try for the Wildcats to deny the hosts a second straight shut-out, but it was all miles too little too late.

Rovers made the perfect start after containing Wakefield on their opening drive. Three repeat sets gave the home side the ideal platform to open the scoring, which came as Adam Walker's offload allowed Costigan to scamper over for his first try.

Rovers made light work of going the 80 metres from a 20m restart in their next set to send Caro over for their second try in the 13th minute.

Wakefield came close to cutting the deficit in the 22nd minute when they were awarded a fortuitous penalty when Ben Cockayne's textbook tackle was penalised by the touch judge. Justice was served when Scott Anderson fumbled the ball going for the Rovers line two plays later.

Rovers extended their advantage in the 31st minute, moments after Burns came up inches short. Seeing a gap, co-captain Hodgson backed himself to score from three metres out and Burns converted for a 16-0 lead.

There was still time for Rovers to increase their half-time lead to 22-0 when Welham grounded Keating's kick after Paul Sykes made a mess of trying to gather the kick through.

The second half would also be dominated by Rovers, but they had to wait until the 52nd minute before celebrating their next score as Welham set Caro away and there was no stopping the Jamaica international.

Keating compounded Wakefield's woes with his side's sixth try of the game by ducking out of tackles to score under the posts and Burns added the extras for a 32-0 lead.

Keating was enjoying himself and he was the provider of Rovers next try, for Hodgson under the posts. Burns converted easily as Wakefield looked a sorry outfit.

Welham grabbed his second of the game by dancing through the Wakefield defence with Burns converting. But just when it looked as though Rovers would secure back-to-back shut-outs for the first time in Super League, Godinet intercepted a Keating pass to score.
