Global referees' chief Paddy O'Brien has heaped praise on Australian television match official Stuart Dickinson, insisting there is "no doubt" he was correct to disallow Mark Cueto's try in the World Cup final.

England lost 15-6 to South Africa in Paris but the turning point was undoubtedly Dickinson's ruling that Cueto's foot had touched the line as he went to ground.

But O'Brien has been quick to praise Dickinson, who took his time before ruling 'no try'.

O'Brien, referees' manager for the International Rugby Board, told the Sunday Times he thought it was a great decision.

"It was an absolutely brilliant decision by the television match official, and there is a great photo of his [Cueto's] foot just on the line prior to grounding the ball.

"There is no issue, there is no doubt. People may criticise officials for taking time, but it is better that it is correct."
