Italy suffer again

Is there no end to the injury problems for Berbizier?

Is there no end to the injury problems for Berbizier?

Italy have suffered a second injury setback in the space of a week with the news that flanker Alessandro Zanni will not play any further part in the World Cup.

Zanni picked up a hamstring injury in training whilst Italy prepared for their clash with Portugal, and reports show he will not recover in time to play any further part.

Italy had initially planned to replace Zanni with Paul Derbyshire, but he is also injured and head coach Pierre Berbizier has turned to Roberto Mandelli, subject to approval by Rugby World Cup Limited.

Berbizier and his assistants had wanted to give Zanni time to recover before deciding on whether to replace him but have called up 28-year-old Mandelli, who plays for GRAN Parma and has won nine caps.

Italy have already had to send for a replacement flanker, with Silvio Orlando coming in for Robert Barbieri, who injured a thigh last week.
