Portugal thank their fans
Portugal were supported from start to finish by an amazing set of fans
Portugal man of the match Diogo Coutinho was unhappy that his side failed to achieve their World Cup objective but was delighted at the experience had in France.
Os Lobos finally fell to Romania, 14-10, after a brave effort that was ultimately not quite good enough.
"Our objective in the World Cup was to beat Romania and I think we deserve a win but Romania were a very good team," he said.
"We fought until the very last minute, and we are very unhappy not to win but we did our best."
Coutinho looked to the lack of prior World Cup experience as one of the contributing factors in their defeat.
"This was our first time in a World Cup and we do not have experience like other teams, and we hope we can come back in four years with more strength," he added.
The Portuguese have won a place in the hearts of many and the support they have received has been tremendous, and the flank was quick to thank all those who got behind his team.
"But the support we had was amazing and the whole experience is one we will all treasure," he concluded.
