Scotland captain Jason White insists coach Frank Hadden remains the best man for the job after bowing out in the World Cup quarter-finals.

Hadden's contract expires in the coming weeks and Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) chief executive Gordon McKie has already confirmed he is "very hopeful'' the 53-year-old will stay on.

"Frank has been good for us and we've definitely improved under him - he is a good coach - so Frank definitely gets my full backing to continue," White told The Scotsman.

Scotland's attentions will turn to the Six Nations before long, and their spirited performances at the World Cup appear to bode well.

White believes the future for Scotland under former Edinburgh coach Hadden is bright, despite their World Cup quarter-final exit to Argentina on Sunday.

And the 29-year-old, who returned from a serious knee ligament injury for the World Cup, is cautiously looking to the long-term future.

"It's hard to make a four-year plan, but I would love to play in the World Cup in New Zealand," said White.

"Scotland can possibly develop like Argentina have, a team who have played together consistently well.''
