Mortlock says Boks by 15

Stirling words from Mortlock

Stirling words from Mortlock

Wallaby captain Stirling Mortlock predicts a reasonably comfortable win for South Africa against England in the World Cup Final on Saturday.

And of course he has witnessed England up close and very personal, two weeks ago when his Wallabies were turfed out of the World Cup by a tenacious England.

Mortlock was speaking on the Fox programme Inside Rugby and said emphatically 'Boks by 15.'

He is well qualified to talk given that he has played against both teams in the last few months.

Former World Cup winner and Waratahs coach Ewan MacKenzie predicted that it would take a late Percy Montgomery penalty for the Boks to take the trophy.

Former Wallaby centre Rod Kafer saw it differently - he saw England by a couple of points in a very tight game.

Mortlock has received some criticism over his captaincy since his return to Australia, but that is probably a product of the disappointing results and the fact that he was chosen as skipper ahead of George Gregan - hardly his fault.

The star centre will miss the first half of the Super 14 due to impending shoulder surgery.

He did say that his moment of the World Cup when Takudzwa Ngwenya of the United States Eagles stood up tournament star Bryan Habana and rounded him.

"The whole team room stood up and cheered when we watched it."

He went on to say that "You won't see that that often - Habana is the fastest player I have ever played against."
