Gregan's four-year-old son Max was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2004, causing the player, along with his wife Erica, to launch the George Gregan foundation, which aims to raise funds for specific projects targeting children. In June 2004, he was appointed to the order of Australia - the equivalent of an MBE - for his services to the game.
