Malcolm O`Kelly

Date of birth: 19/07/1974

Position: Lock

Test Caps: 87

Test Debut: 15th November 1997 v New Zealand

Test Points: 40

Current Club: Leinster

Strengths: A towering line-out presence and a strong man around the park, Mal's experience in all conditions will be vital whether he starts or
benches. Sometimes described as a fourth backrower due to his usually high
tackle count. Also has good hands/pass. Very useful in mauls as the central
figure.

Weaknesses: A tendency to get isolated and also to give away silly
penalties in the ruck, both down to poor body positioning and lack of
concentration; age and injury have both left their mark and these days he is most effective for 50 minutes.

Likely headline(s): O'Kelly's Heroes!

Did you know?: Big Mal scored a try in Ireland's last ever game at
Lansdowne Road and in 2005, overtook the great Mike Gibson to become
Ireland's most capped player.
