Paul O`Connell

Date of birth: 20/10/1979

Position: Lock

Test Caps: 48

Test Debut: 3rd February 2002 v Wales

Test Points: 30

Current Club: Munster

Strengths: O'Connell's fierce determination, commitment and all-round game have made him on one of the world's pre-eminent locks. An imperious line-out specialist and rampaging force in the loose, his form will be critical to Ireland's fortunes.

Weaknesses: Again, somewhat injury prone, some argue that when the going gets tough O'Connell can go missing in action, an accusation he'll be desperate to prove wrong. Further, his passing/offloading ability
needs improvement before he can be considered a truly great lock.

Likely headline(s): Munster's Monster

Did you know?: O'Connell's debut game bagged him a first try against Wales and he has been Ireland's vice-captain, stepping up to lead his
country several times in O'Driscoll's absence. Adept at many sports,
including golf (6 handicap). Had a choice when younger as to which sport to
concentrate on, chose rugby over golf.
