Donncha O`Callaghan
Date of birth: 23/03/1979
Position: Lock
Test Caps: 38
Test Debut: 22nd March 2003 v Wales
Test Points: 5
Current Club: Munster
Strengths: The wild-eyed man of Munster, the Corinthian of Cork, O'Callaghan wears his heart on his sleeve and combines committed tight work
with a fierce determination around ruck and maul. A master at leading the
catch and drive at the front of the lineout, his scrummaging power was
described by John Hayes as 'pushing like a tractor'.
Weaknesses: Not the technical lineout specialist that O'Kelly is, and a fiery temperament that sometimes catches the eye of the officials or results
in over ambitious play.
Likely headline(s): What's up DOC? DOC's orders.
Did you know?: Donncha's fame soared when he attempted to contest a lineout following Munster's Heineken Cup Clash with the Cardiff Blues, in his underpants! The referee sent Donncha to the sideline for a new pair of shorts - the previous ones had been torn off in a preceding tackle. He currently lives with his long-term girlfriend Rebecca. They and their pet lobster are very happy. He is also the cousin of Ipswich Town footballer George O'Callaghan.
