Simon Easterby

Date of birth: 21/08/1975

Position: Flanker

Test Caps: 60

Test Debut: 19th February 2000 v Scotland

Test Points: 35

Current Club: Llanelli Scarlets

Strengths: Easterby is to Irish rugby what Richard Hill was to English
rugby. A tireless worker and consummate reader of the game, he immerses
himself in delivering the grunt and grind that spectators often do not see.
He is a world-class line-out option, a devastating first-up tackler, and
fast enough to play at 7 in a Lions Test. An absolutely top-level performer
in every sense of the phrase and one of the world's very, very best
back-rowers.

Weaknesses: Few if any, but perhaps he sometimes lacks the
impact you'd like from a 6 in contact .

Likely headline(s): Easter comes early. Beasterby.

Did you know?: A Yorkshireman playing in Wales, the IRFU must have used DNA analysis to find any Irish qualifications with which to select him. He followed in Lawrence Dallaglio's footsteps in the Ampleforth College 6
shirt, and then ironically in Lol's hobble, as he replaced the Great Man as
a Lion in NZ in 2005, when Dallaglio broke his ankle. He is married to
former Lion Elgan Rees' daughter, TV presenter Sara Rees.
