Strengths: Besides holding his own in the scrum, Van der Linde is devastating in open play. His charging runs can soak up as many as three to four defenders at a time.
Weaknesses: Ill-discipline. Van der Linde has cost his team many penalties in the scrum as well as the rucks and mauls. Perhaps he should lose his customed scrum cap to think twice before collapsing a scrum on his own line.
