full-time Hurricanes 66 Rebels 24
80 CONVERSION, REBELS, KINGI! 66-24. Richard Kingi adds the extras and the final whistle goes to bring proceedings to a close. The Canes are ecstatic after this result and they deserve all the accolades as they were dominant in all facets of play.
80 TRY, REBELS, FREIER! 66-22. Adam Freier burrows his way over the try-line from close quarters to add some respectability to his side's score.
78 Cooper Vuna puts in a chip kick inside the Canes' 22 and Tusi Pisi fails with his effort to kick it into touch. Vuna dives on the loose ball behind the try-line but after consultation with the TMO, the referee rules that he did not have control of the ball so the try is disallowed.
77 The Rebels are stuck inside their half but are desperately trying to get over the advantage line. They gain a reprieve when the Canes are pinned for being offside.
74 There's a break in play as Nic Henderson is receiving medical attention for what appears to be a shoulder injury. Everything seems to be going wrong for the visitors.
69 CONVERSION, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 66-17. Barrett adds another two points and his side now have a 49 point lead!
68 TRY, HURRICANES, EATON! 64-17. The Hurricanes go on the drive from a line-out and replacement scrum-half Eaton catches the Rebels by surprise when breaks away and dots down!
66 Motu Matu'u is at it again! This time it's Lachlan Mitchell who makes the mistake of trying to get past the Hurricanes' replacement hooker and like Gerrard he runs into a massive hit! And like Gerrard before him, Mitchell is also forced off the field with a groggy look on his face.
63 The Rebels are desperate to add more points and Mark Gerrard tries to launch an attack deep inside the Hurricanes' 22. He doesn't gain much ground though as he is smashed in the tackle by Motu Matu'u! It's a big hit and Gerrard takes a while to get back to his feet.
60 The Rebels have a rare attacking opportunity at a line-out close to the Hurricanes try-line. However, they soon lose possession when Lam wins a turnover at a ruck and the Canes clear their line.
57 CONVERSION, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 59-17. Barretts makes no mistake with another solid effort from the kicking tee!
56 TRY, HURRICANES, TAYLOR! 57-17. Taylor waltzes pass three Rebels defenders and displays great power and determination before crashing over!
55 CONVERSION, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 52-17. Barrett adds his seventh conversion to give his side an unassailable lead!
54 TRY, HURRICANES, SAVEA! 50-17. From a ruck on the edge of the Rebels' 22, the ball is spun wide to Andre Taylor who offloads to Savea who gets in for an easy run-in!
52 The Canes are on the attack again and there's brilliant inter-play between Barrett Perenara and Lam. Barrett eventually gets the ball again and gets the ball out wide to dangerman Savea but the referee calls them back for a forward pass from the pivot!
50 James Hilgendorf tries to put his team on the front foot with a clearance kick over the heads of the Hurricanes' backs. He's outside his 22 and adds to his side's misery when his effort goes directly into touch.
48 The Rebels try to launch an attack but make little headway. They soon lose possession close to the halfway mark when TJ Perenara wins a turnover for the home side.
45 CONVERSION, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 45-17. Barrett adds the extras to extend his side's lead!
44 TRY, HURRICANES, LEIUA! 43-17. Alapati Leiua runs onto a pass from Barrett inside the Rebels' 22 and beats two defenders before dotting down!
42 Victor Cito makes a break inside the Rebels' 22 but is brough to ground five metres short of the try-line by a text book tackle from Nick phipps.
40 Barrett gets the second half started but the Rebels fail to regather. Lam does well to regain possession for his side and the Canes are soon on the attack.
Half-time HURRICANES 38-17 REBELS
40 The Rebels forced to defend once again, can the 'Canes bag another on the stroke of half-time? Nope, Bateman can't gather and spills it forward. Relief for the Rebels as they head into the half-time sheds with a lot more questions than answers. 'Canes cruising! See you in a bit...
37 CONVERSION, HURRICANES. Two more points from Barrett who extends his side's lead to 21 points before the break. Ouch!
36 TRY, HURRICANES. Lam has a go - try-time! That's the Hurricanes' fifth touchdown of the evening. They're cruising folks, and it's only the first half!
35 The Hurricanes rumble it up - Jeremy Thrush stopped inches short, and then Vito but the hosts continue to pile on the pressure as Jeffery Toomaga-Allen has a crack.
33 CONVERSION, REBELS. Beale is on target - the goal-kickers having a good night with the boot. 31-17
32 TRY, REBELS. The visitors needed to score next, and did just that after Vuna intercepts from the restart and goes over for his brace. The Rebels will need a few more of those to catch up!
31 CONVERSION, HURRICANES. Yip, you guessed it... Barrett nails the conversion. 31-10!
30 TRY, HURRICANES. Smith now with a grubber kick ahead, Savea follows it up, collects and dots down for his second try in the space of two minutes!
28 CONVERSION, HURRICANES. Barrett's kicking has been sensational as another one goes over from far out.
27 TRY, HURRICANES. The crowd getting treated to a try-scoring exhibition here as wing Julian Savea puts his name on the scoresheet after racing in for the 'Canes third try of the night. Hurricanes on fire!
25 CONVERSION, HURRICANES. Once again, Barrett's conversion attempt is good and the 'Canes open the gap to seven points. 17-10
24 TRY, HURRICANES. Barrett now with the stab kick ahead, Alapati Leiua is chasing after it. The ball pops up kindly for him and it's another try for the men in yellow!
21 The Rebels struggling to get their hands on the ball as the Hurricanes click into fifth gear following Taylor's try. Jack Lam now on the charge... slips off one, two Rebels tacklers... the visitors need to sort out their defence fast.
18 CONVERSION, HURRICANES. Barrett lands the sideline conversion and the scores are level folks! 10-10
17 TRY, HURRICANES. TJ Perenara spots a half-gap and takes it. The halfback races along the touchline, throws a pass behind his back to Bateman who has to pick up at his ankles before offloading to Taylor for a superb try in the corner!!!
16 Now the 'Canes get some momentum flowing and the Rebels' defence is in sixes and sevens - it's that man Smith causing all sorts of trouble in midfield.
14 PENALTY, REBELS. Victor Vito guilty of slowing down the ball which allows Beale a chance to extend his team's lead. Over! 3-10
12 Both sides full of running, and it's the Rebels who are in possession again. Mark Gerrard tries to get in on the action and takes his team into the 'Canes 22.
10 PENALTY, HURRICANES. The hosts hit back straight away through a Beauden Barrett penalty after the Rebels were caught offsides and the 'Canes are on the board! 3-7
8 CONVERSION, REBELS. Beale adds the easy extras and the men from Melbourne take a handy seven-point lead early on. 0-7
7 TRY, REBELS. The visitors pinch the line-out throw from Dane Coles and Nick Phipps feeds Beale who's met hard in a crunching tackle. He managed to get his pass away to Cooper Vuna though who dances his way through some sloppy Hurricanes defence all the way to the tryline! First blood to the Rebels. 0-5
4 Now Tim Bateman finds some space, but runs away from his support. The Rebels turn him over, Beale kicks for territory for he's overcooked it and puts the ball out on the full. So we'll have a line-out on half-way.
2 The ball's recycled and spread to quickly to Alapati Leiua who passes inside to Jason Eaton. The lock wasn't expecting it, manages to hold on and charges forward. A Rebels player has knocked on trying to steal the ball on the deck, so we'll have a scrum. Electric start by the 'Canes.
1 And we're underway! Kurtley Beale kicks off and the Hurricanes hit the ground running - literally. Conrad Smith bursts clear and races 40m before an ankle tap stops him in his tracks.
Team news For the Rebels: Englishman Michael Lipman has been rested and his place has been taken by Tim Davidson. Elsewhere, Jono Owen is in at tighthead for Rodney Blake who drops to bench duty.
Team news For the Hurricanes: Beauden Barrett returns to fly-half and Alapati Leiua comes in for the injured Cory Jane; in the forwards, Jack Lam replaces injured openside flanker Karl Lowe (knee), Faifili Levave reclaims the number six jersey from All Blacks training squad member Brad Shields, and prop Jeffery Toomaga-Allen returns for Reg Goodes.
Preview The 'Canes have slipped to ninth overall following last week's loss to the Brumbies and they can't afford to drop this one if they want to scrape into the top six. Home ground advantage hasn't been a great help this year because they've lost five of their six games in Wellington. While the Rebels beat the Hurricanes last year in Melbourne, they've lost nine of the past 10 games on the road and are none from three in New Zealand.
Welcome! Hello and welcome to the New Zealand capital of Wellington for this Round 14 hit-out between the Hurricanes and the Rebels!
