He is tackled into touch and that is the end of the match as referee Kaplan blows his whistle to bring proceedings to a close. The 'Canes deserve this win and they can point to the 20 minutes after the break as the period when they clinched the result. The 'Tahs deserve credit as they were competitive throughout but, in the end, they were beaten by a superior side.
78 Chris Smylie puts a box kick through for Julian Savea to chase! The big wing is first to the ball but is beaten by a wicked bounce just in front of the 'Tahs' try-line!

70 The 'Canes win a turnover inside their 22 and the ball comes out to Julian Savea, who bumps off defenders, as if they are rag dolls, and wins about fifty metres for his team! It takes two defenders to halt his progress inside the 'Tahs' 22!
68 The Tahs' do brilliantly when they go on the attack from behind their try-line! Foley, Mitchell, Folau, Matt Lucas and Rob Horne are lall prominent and they eventually end up inside the 'Canes' 22!

40 PENALTY, HURRICANES, BARRETT! 19-16. Barrett adds another three-pointer, on the stroke of half-time, after Sekope Kepu enters a maul from the side. That kick is the final act of the half and the players head into the sheds. It's been an entertaining opening half, with both sides showing a willingness to run the ball. If they continue in this vein we're in for a thrilling second period as the match will inevitably become more open when the players tire.
38 Conrad Smith makes a break, which tears the 'Tahs' first line of defence to shreds! He offloads to Ardie Savea who is brought to ground by a text-book tackle from Israel Folau!

26 Michael Hooper runs onto a pass from Foley and takes the gap! He offloads to McKibbin, who overruns the pass and knocks on!

7 The Canes launch their first real attack but it all comes to nothing when Tim Bateman knocks on just outside the 'Tahs' 22!

Team news Waratahs boss Michael Cheika has made just one change to his run-on side that beat the Western Force last weekend. Wallabies prop Sekope Kepu starts in place of Paddy Ryan in the front row. The Waratahs welcome back Wycliff Palu, who returns from an ankle injury to take his place on the bench in the only other change to the matchday 22.
Team news Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett has made several changes to his starting XV that beat the Kings last weekend. All Black Victor Vito has been carrying a calf injury and will be replaced at the back of the scrum by Faifili Levave. And 19-year-old openside flanker Ardie Savea will make his long-awaited Super Rugby debut as Karl Lowe is unavailable for selection. In other changes, Mark Reddish comes in for Jeremy Thrush, who has an ankle injury, with James Broadhurst on the bench and Motu Matu'u replaces the injured Dane Coles at hooker. This match could be a memorable occasion for Chris Smylie who is set to make his 50th Super Rugby appearance off the bench.
